VisitBritain/VisitEngland, the national tourism agency, had recently brought finance, procurement and projects under one Senior Leadership Team (SLT). With significant organisational change underway, the Director recognised the need for this newly formed team to build greater trust, strengthen collaboration and role model cross-functional leadership. Their objective was to shift from operating as separate functions to consistently operating as a high-performing, unified SLT capable of owning their collective and individual behaviours, decisions and long-term impact.
We began by listening closely to the Director’s ambitions and the team’s current dynamics, identifying both the strengths to build on and the gaps to close. From this, we designed a series of facilitated workshops, each centred on what it means to operate as a high-performing leadership team. These sessions were deliberately flexible and iterative, allowing us to adapt to the team’s needs as they progressed.
The workshops focused on several key themes:
We challenged the group to adopt an outward-facing, collective mindset, prioritising the success of the overall function rather than their individual teams. We also supported them in taking ownership of cross-functional projects, reinforcing the behaviours of shared accountability and collaborative problem-solving.
The impact was clear and immediate. The team began engaging in more vulnerable, constructive conversations and started working together outside the formal sessions in ways they hadn’t before. By the end, they were not only better aligned but were also stepping up as a confident, self-managing SLT, equipped to guide their functions through change and model the collaborative culture their organisation needs
