Panasonic Europe, a global leader in developing innovative technology and solutions, launched their Next Generation Talent Programme (NGTP), after it became apparent that there was a need for more creativity in the management and development of careers. A report by McKinsey (2021) found that 94% of employees would choose to stay longer at an organisation if they felt there was investment into their learning and career development. The programme was therefore aimed at talented individuals who have the potential to become managers and beyond…
We partnered with Panasonic to deliver and enhance two modules within a series of six. NGTP was built and adapted from their previous talent programme, with the new programme focusing on driving a culture of innovation, change and continuous improvement.
We started out with collating and reviewing data from focus groups, to really tailor the best solution. We then went on to deliver a module focused on management and leadership, and another delving into coaching teams and individuals. Each day of the programme was bespoke, engaging and participative, ensuring the whole cohort could take away and implement their learnings.
Following the completion of each module, we asked participants for feedback, with amazing results:
We started by looking at data from focus groups of alumni from the previous talent programme, to ensure the solution was tailored for the individual requirements of the cohort. Before designing our modules, we also attended previous modules, delivered by the other partners, to gain a deeper understanding of Panasonic Europe and their culture. This enabled our modules to be more cohesive within the entire NGTP.
Participants travelled from across Europe to attend the modules. To ensure all participants could truly learn from each other, we focused on creating an open, safe and friendly environment.
The programme was a beautiful blend of the latest thinking in inclusive leadership, diversity and emotional intelligence, whilst also being massively practical. Participants had lots of hands-on practice, with challenges, exercises and games, giving them the chance to gain real-time feedback.
Modules one to three (carried out by other partners) included an introduction; project management and basic scenario planning; launch of their team projects; and a dive into cross-cultural working.
Module four was carried out over the course of five days, including pre-work and ongoing learning (a drip feed of TED Talks, extracts and book recommendations). Each day was jam-packed, but here’s a flavour of what we got up to:
Module six, the coaching module, was delivered over two days. In advance of this module, each participant was sent a copy of ‘Coaching for Performance’ by John Whitmore, so they could start already knowing the theories of coaching. We focused on:
The overall focus was on individuals defining their personal future leadership journey. We provided them with a ‘menu’ of leadership qualities, asking them how they want to be as a leader, how they’re going to get there and what support/development they need.
Following the completion of NGTP, we ran an alumni event for all participants to date, which created a great opportunity to reunite and reflect.
“Each time it runs, NGTP reminds me why investing in early talent matters so much. Watching colleagues grow in confidence, challenge themselves and discover their potential is one of the most rewarding parts of my role. This programme isn’t just about developing skills – it’s about creating connections, sparking new perspectives and giving people the space to step into bigger versions of themselves. I’m incredibly proud of what last year’s cohort achieved and I can’t wait to see where the next group takes us.”
