Jean-Francois Gravelet was famous for tightrope walking across the Niagara Falls in the late 1800s.
Upon completing a highly dangerous tightrope walk over the Falls in appalling weather with rain and gales, Jean-Francois, aka. ‘The Great Blondin’, was met by an enthusiastic supporter who urged him to make a return trip across the rope, but this time pushing a wheelbarrow, which he had thoughtfully brought along.
Blondin was reluctant, considering the challenging conditions, but the supporter pressed him, urging, “You can do it! I know you can!”
“You really believe I can do this?” asked Blondin.
“Sure I do. Yes, you can definitely do it!” the supporter gushed.
“Ok”, said Blondin, “Get in the wheelbarrow…”
How about you? As a manager or leader do you offer support along the way, particularly in challenging times? Would you get in the wheelbarrow with your team? Would you go the extra mile to ensure your team choose to stay with you and your organisation?
