Rebecca was reflecting on her first few months as a consultant at Rambutan.
I’ve been part of Rambutan for four months now and what a wonderful journey I’ve travelled on.
I love seeing the positive impact I have on people. This is one of the main reasons I joined Rambutan. So far, my Rambutan highlights include partnering with new clients, and designing and delivering content that generates a powerful, positive influence. It’s not all been plain sailing though. It’s been a steep learning curve (more of a straight line!).
I love what Rambutan does and stand for. It’s been quite a big switch for me, from being in the corporate world and commissioning our type of leadership and coaching work to creating, designing and delivering it. I follow our five-step approach to scope out projects for clients and create solutions. This can mean working with several clients on the same day and adapting to match the different approaches, objectives and cultures of each client. In the corporate world, I was working in ‘one world’ with one business, immersed in one set of behaviours, values and culture all day long.
I love the challenges that I’ve been presented with and I’ve learnt loads. I’ve refreshed myself on the behavioural side of business change, leadership and behaviour models. It’s been full-on and I’ve had to adapt my brain to work differently; switching between several pieces of work extremely quickly. But there’s been several ‘cross-over’ skills activities that have been fun, productive and effective and given me a small amount of time in my comfort zone.
With everything being so new, I spend most of my working day in the stretch zone (but thankfully not in the panic zone) and it’s been brilliant to challenge myself. I’m immensely glad I made the move, as look at where I am now. I believe I’m embodying my ‘be brave’ ethos in my work choice.
When I was in my old corporate role, I occasionally became disorientated in the hugeness of it all and lost my purpose. Here at Rambutan, I believe in the results we deliver and the positive impact we have, both at an organisation and individual one-to-one level. You can immediately see and hear the feedback from people about how they’ve shifted their thinking after one of our Rambutan interventions and how insightful they’ve found it.
In the near future, I’m looking forward to focusing on my impactive and positive activities, while working with aspiring talent and leaders across a multitude of clients. I’m excited for something that I don’t even know what it’ll be yet. I just know it’ll be amazing, awesome and authentic.
