Craig has been mulling over our Rambutan values and what they mean to him
My personal values are important to me. They’re my moral compass and I’m passionate about how I live them every day. Equally, our values at Rambutan are just as important to me. They’re closely aligned to my own, and when both your personal and work values are so closely aligned, it’s amazing. It makes being my true authentic self, easy.
When I think about my values (both personal and work) I don’t have a particular favourite. It’s more about how I live each value, every day. For example, being genuinely interested, I focus on people, how they are, what it’s like to be in their shoes, and just being around them, either virtually or physically. The more I get to know people around me, the better the relationships and support and care we offer each other.
It’s lovely to be around people who all have widely differing personalities but who also have a similar set of beliefs and values, which is why our values matter not just to me but to Rambutan as a whole. As a bunch, we all bring a certain spark and a certain drive to a room or a situation. I believe that when you’re enthusiastic and lively, it demonstrates how passionate you are about the subject, the people around you, and the guaranteed results you achieve.
I believe that values are only important if you know what they are and you actually live them in practice. Values are there to be lived not laminated on a poster. You know a value is being lived when, if you’re asked to describe who a person is, how passionately accountable they are and the relationships they have with other people; the response is:
• they’re always trusting and respectful
• they’re always listened to
• they ask lots of questions
• you know where you stand with them i.e. they’re straightforward in what they say and how they act
• they relentlessly strive to hit every single outcome, however challenging it may be
Our values drive who I am, what I do, and what it’s like to be around me. I want everyone I interact with to feel and experience that in me. I live and breathe them as an individual and as a bunch member of Rambutan.
What values run through you? What makes them important to you? Be daring and let us know!
