Nicki was contemplating Leicester’s success in the Premiership recently and it got her thinking about the power of teamwork.
Now, I’m no football fan but I’d have to have been living in a cave not to notice Leicester City’s spectacular rise to the top of the league. Everyone loves an underdog don’t they? I’m keeping a very keen eye on what happens next! The papers have been reporting on their success with comments like: ‘Leicester have made us believe that anything is possible; they have swept all our assumptions away’ and ‘Leicester have recalibrated what a club can achieve with team spirit, good management and players with something to prove.’
As a local, I feel a sense of pride in such a relatively small club of restricted means doing so well against the stranglehold of the biggest, richest clubs in the league. Leicester City’s success isn’t due to the amount of money that’s been ploughed in to the club, it’s about the people in it, effective leadership with constant support for the team, the teamwork of the players themselves and their overall, collective belief and focus on the end goal. The players have behaved with pride on the pitch and embarked on a superb team effort to get to the top of the league and stay there…against all the odds! There’s undoubtedly some remarkable, individual talent at Leicester with the likes of Vardy and Mahrez, but their priority is to win as a team, not to embark on an individual ego trip as so many other great players have done before them. Their skills can only be truly realised when part of a team with a united vision and a collective belief in what can be achieved. It just goes to show anything’s possible if you believe in it!
Let’s hope Leicester City continue to the very end and put Leicester well and truly on the map! To show our support, Rambutan are taking part in #BackingTheBlues on Friday 29 April, where we’ll move away from our usual red/green and ‘be blue’ for the day, a one-time only event, I reckon! Remember to check out our Twitter and Facebook pages to see pictures of the bunch in blue…
